In addition to  the official CPIs for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), the    2015-03-24   2020-08-27 
chained CPI for All Urban Consumers (C-CPI-U), and Urban Wage Earners 
and Clerical Workers (CPI-W), the CPI calculates an experimental price
index for Americans 62 years of age and older. There are several      
limitations in  the experimental price index which must be considered 
and understood by potential users of the data.

The BLS calculates a research price index called the Consumer Price       2020-08-28   2024-09-11 
Index for Americans 62 years of age and older, or R-CPI-E. The R-CPI-E
is used by those interested in measures of price change specifically  
based on the spending patterns of the elderly (as defined in the      
construction of this index). Official uses of the R-CPI-E have been   
considered by other government agencies but not implemented due to    
several limitations. These limitations must be considered and         
understood by potential users of the data, and any conclusions drawn  
from these analyses should be treated as tentative.

Release Dates Notes:

Release dates are determined by the following process:

When available, the actual release date as provided by the source is
entered into the ALFRED database.  If a release date is not available
from the source, the release date given by our data providers is used.
 If a release date cannot be determined either from the source or from
our data providers, the date that the series was first available in
the St. Louis Fed's FRED database is used.

The release date list contains the dates when any series from this
release was revised.  Note that all series from a release do not
necessarily revise on every release date.
